1xRun Thru Interview
La Dent by Niark1
1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece?
Niark1: Well, this piece has been done some time ago. This is at the moment where I tried to add some cool textures in my digital illustrations.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Niark1: I just wanted to make something a bit weird and fun in the same time. Like a kind of illustration for children. Actually, I wanted to make something for my kid initially. The idea of the character with big teeth who extracts one of the giraffe just came gradually when I was making the illustration. Finally I decided to make a diamond for the head of the giraffe. It looks really fun like that. Abstract and absurd.
1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Niark1: Not very long. It was during a week end. It was fun to do.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Niark1: I think this kind of giraffe is unique, no ? ;)
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Niark1: Because this is cool.
1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
1xRun: Bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to the last few months?
Niark1: Always working on several projects. A lot of illustrations and some paintings for a solo show to come. Also i have painted murals with cool guys recently. Some skate and snow boards to come. etc …
1xRun: You seem to be working in a few different mediums lately, what is your favorite aspect of working in each?
Niark1: Well, I like to work on different mediums but it is mostly digital or painting/drawing, that permits me to find new ideas and to try to reproduce them on these different mediums. They are all complementary. When I use my computer generally I make very graphic designs and illustrations, but I also try to have something raw and textured like I can have when I use pencils / paintings. In the inverse when I draw or paint something sometimes I try to have some details and parts that are super graphic so I can have them when I use my computer.
1xRun: Your work seems to blend in a series of disparate ideas, do you work from any reference materials or is most of your work created from scratch?
Niark1: Generally I like to start from scratch and see how thing evolve and make some changes, then I always have some recurrent elements that I try to incorporate. It’s a bit like cooking.
1xRun: Who are some people who have really been inspiring you to push yourself?
Niark1: There are a lot of artists who have inspired me. I’ll most often see exhibitions in galleries and museums, that is always a source of motivation.
1xRun: What are your plans for the next 2-3 months here?
Niark1: Just to keep drawing, panting and making weird stuff. Some exhibitions are being planned right now too. There will be many things that will happen next months, so to keep up it’s best to follow my news on my social networks below. ;)
