1xRUN Thru Interview
Bunny Kitty by Persue
1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this icon, when did it begin and what’s the story behind it?
Persue: Bunny Kitty and her universe were created over 10 years ago. I wanted to create an icon and story that would reach a larger demographic than my graffiti art might. So I invented a world and cast of characters that interact with Bunny Kitty on her adventures in the post apocalypse story. In this series characters that have yet to be introduced are doing so through these one off hand painted paintings. Bunny Kitty’s crush Dee Dee Meow the guitarist for the Slugganauts is being introduced as well as the Siamese twin back up singers Michelle Michelle.
1xRun: What materials were used to create these pieces?
Persue: The wood cut out pieces were screen printed with acrylic and the original artwork was created with acrylic on wood panels.
1xRun: When were these pieces painted and how ling did they take to complete?
Persue: These took me about 5 days each back in May 2014.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Persue: The execution came about after my trip to Pow Wow Hawaii. I depicted this cast of characters in a floating serine Rainbow Bridge in collaboration with my friend Slick. I wanted to keep that style in these pieces. The characters are depicted in a dream state.
1xRun: Why should people buy one of these hand-painted multiples?
Persue: I seldom release Bunny Kitty originals. Also, I have not released Bunny Kitty paintings to be purchased since 2006. This is along time coming.
1xRun: Describe these pieces in one gut reaction word.
1xRun: Give us the rundown on what you’ve been up to since we talked last back in February?
Persue: I was invited was invited to partake in Rime’s art show in Paris. This was in May. We collaborated on 5 pieces together. I went to Paris for the opening and managed to paint a couple of walls out there with my friends.
1xRun: Any recent shows or events?
Persue: I will be having a show with Rime and Dabs n Myla at the Seventh Letter store in Loa Angeles this September.
