Roids Releases New 12-Color Screen Prints Palekaiko For Pow Wow Hawaii 2014

1xRun Thru Interview
Palekaiko by Roids

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece…
The concept centered around the Hawaiian word Palekaiko (paradise) and the idea of people’s perception of the word. It was really driven by my excitement for having been invited to such an amazing place, and I tried to play a little with an aesthetic that was true to some of my preconceptions of the islands, perhaps fed a little by the cliche retro graphics you tend to see on t-shirts and postcards.

1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent  theme, series or show that you had?
These screen prints were created from an original I made for my the group show for my first year at Pow Wow (2013) and was the first in a small series I created playing with collage style rendering and graphic studies that could convey an overall idea or feeling.

1xRun:  When was this piece created and with what materials?
The original piece was created in 2013 with a mixture of cel vinyl, gouache, and spray paint.

1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.

1xRun: This will be each of your second year joining the Pow Wow Hawaii family, who are some of the artists you’re really excited to see painting out there?
I’m excited to see everyone there, old faces and new.

1xRun: Do you have any plans for your wall out there or are you just going to improvise it?
I’m partnering up with my fellow south Londoner Insa this year , and we have a 5 day gif-iti mural we are planning.

1xRun: You’ve been staying busy per usual, what have you been doing lately?
Roids: At the moment I’m trying to knuckle down with studio work, with hopefully a couple of solo shows later in the year and some group shows in the US and Europe.

1xRun: Aside from Pow Wow 2014, what are your plans for the new year?
Roid: Stay in Hawaii as long as possible !

1xRun: Where else can people find you?
