1xRUN Thru Interview

Joe Blow by Serge Gay Jr.

1xRUN: Tell us a bit about this piece, when was it created? What materials was it created with?

Serge Gay Jr.: Acrylic paint with some love mixed all together on canvas. I painted this piece last year in November, after I was on a Thanksgiving food coma and this piece appeared from no where.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?

Serge Gay Jr.: I wanted to do a piece on abusive relationships and how nothing good ever comes out of it. If you stay or keep going back it equals to “Bad”. So in this story the woman kills her boyfriend because he wouldn’t let her go, after several occasions where he’s hurt her. Now she’s left with these “demons” that she felt made her do it and thought that it was her only exit to freedom from him.  Just a story I made up, but I’m very fascinated in similar real life situations.

Serge Gay Jr.: it took me one full day and a half without skipping a beat.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?

Serge Gay Jr.: Because that wall space in your home looks empty.

1xRun: Describe this print in one gut reaction word.

Serge Gay Jr.: stupefying!!!

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why?

Serge Gay Jr: There’s some friends from Haight that I would love to collaborate with. If not them some big time singer or rapper not a visual artist. My father would be another person.
