1xRUN Thru Interview
No More Fantasies by Victor Castillo

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, was it part of a recent series, theme or show that you had?
Victor Castillo:  This painting is a little rebel story about facing the fantasies that make us blind face to reality.  It was part of my February 2012 solo show in Los Angeles at Merry Karnowsky Gallery.  Now, it will be a part of a group show this November at Jörg Heitsch Galerie in Munich, Germany.

1xRUN: When was this piece created and with what materials?
Victor Castillo: This painting it was created towards the end of 2012 in my studio in Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles. It was created using acrylic on canvas.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Victor Castillo:  The ideas in my paintings are always a process. Sometimes they come in like a flash, but at the same time I have a collection of images and different concepts that I’m always mixing to create new ideas. In this case, it was in a flash.

1xRun: How long did this piece take?
Victor Castillo: When the idea of the panting comes to me like this one did, the process to create it is usually very fast.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Victor Castillo: I think it is the most unique of my paintings where a kid is spitting fire.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Victor Castillo:  I believe in love in first sight when you are facing art. Then it’s about being in love and desiring the piece.

1xRun: Anything we may have forgotten you want to include?
Victor Castillo:  Something fun, the model in the painting is me.

1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Victor Castillo: Rebellion.

1xRun: You recently took a trip to Chile, tell us a bit about that?
Victor Castillo:  I showed my paintings in Chile for first time after 6 years, I was involved in a art fair in Santiago, and it was a great experience. I didn’t expected so many fans.  I hadn’t come to Chile in about four years, so I’ve been having a lot of social visits with family and friends, but also I’ve been preparing my work for upcoming art fairs and for my next solo exhibitions.chile21xRun: Any other big plans on the docket for the next 2-3 months?
Victor Castillo:  My agenda is very full. In November I’ll have two group shows in Munich and Los Angeles, along with a tiny solo show in Tokyo. My next solo show will be in February 2014 in Los Angeles.
